Overview
Luiz Flávio Gomes (6 May 1957 – 1 April 2020) was a Brazilian jurist, law professor and public intellectual. Born in Sud Mennucci, in the state of São Paulo, he combined academic teaching, prolific writing and media commentary with a later career in elected office. Career, teaching and publications
As an academic and educator Gomes authored more than sixty books addressing criminal law, procedure, anti-corruption topics and practical guidance for law students. One widely noted title was O Jogo Sujo da Corrupção (2017), which discussed systemic corruption and legal responses. Political activity
Gomes entered formal politics as a member of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). Following the 2018 elections, he took office as a federal deputy in the Chamber of Deputies in February 2019. Illness and death
In September 2019 Gomes was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and publicly shared updates about his treatment. He received care at medical facilities in São Paulo while continuing some public activities as his health permitted.
