Lamborghini Reventón: limited-production V12 supercar inspired by fighter jets

A 2007 limited-production Lamborghini supercar based on the Murciélago, the Reventón combined extreme angular styling inspired by the F-22 Raptor with a V12 drivetrain and carbon-fiber construction.

Overview

The Lamborghini Reventón is a limited-production supercar first revealed by Lamborghini in 2007. Built as an exclusive halo model, the Reventón used the mechanical underpinnings of the Murciélago while presenting a radically different exterior and interior treatment. Its launch emphasized rarity, performance and a styling direction influenced by military aviation.

Design and inspiration

Styling drew deliberate cues from stealth fighters, most notably the F-22 Raptor, with sharp, angular body panels, prominent vents and a matte finish intended to recall aircraft surfaces. The bodywork made extensive use of carbon-fibre components and bespoke aerodynamics to give the car an aggressive, sculpted appearance distinct from Lamborghini’s standard lineup.

Chassis, powertrain and performance

Mechanically the Reventón is based on the Murciélago platform and shares its V12 architecture. Lamborghini fitted a high‑revving 6.5‑litre V12 and a performance-oriented transmission and suspension setup, producing power in the supercar range and allowing claimed top speeds well above typical road cars of the era. The combination of a lightweight body, strong V12 output and enhanced cooling and airflow distinguished the Reventón as a track-capable, road-legal special.

Interior and technology

Inside, the Reventón moved away from traditional analog gauges toward a cockpit reminiscent of modern jet fighters: layered instrument displays, a minimalist center console and premium materials. Controls and layout emphasized the driving experience, with bespoke trim and limited-edition detailing that reinforced the model’s exclusivity.

Production, rarity and variants

Lamborghini produced only twenty production coupes, making the Reventón one of the marque’s rarest road cars. The scarcity, combined with its unique styling and direct link to the Murciélago mechanicals, quickly made it highly sought after by collectors. A later open‑top interpretation was produced in still smaller numbers as a separate, even rarer edition.

Legacy and notable facts

  • Named in keeping with Lamborghini’s tradition of bullfighting references, the Reventón recalls the marque’s cultural roots.
  • Its fighter‑jet influence and limited run positioned it as a design statement and halo model for the brand.
  • For further reference on the donor model, see the Murciélago: Murciélago.

The Reventón remains an example of Lamborghini’s approach to combining extreme styling, high performance and deliberate rarity to create a collector’s automobile that stands apart from regular production models.
