John Prine (October 10, 1946 – April 7, 2020) was an American country folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was born in Maywood, Illinois but raised in Chicago. His music was often seen as protest and social commentary. He began making music for Atlantic Records in 1971. In 1984 he co-founded Oh Boy Records, an independent record label. In 1992 and 2006, Prine won a Grammy Award.
