Jesús Vaquero Crespo — Spanish neurosurgeon and specialist in spinal cord injury
Spanish neurosurgeon Jesús Vaquero (1950–2020) was a leading clinician and professor known for work on spinal (medullary) injuries, long-serving chief of Neurosurgery at Hospital Puerta de Hierro and a UAM professor.
Jesús Vaquero Crespo (1950 – 17 April 2020) was a Spanish neurosurgeon best known for his clinical and academic work on spinal (medullary) injuries. Born in Madrid, he combined surgical practice with teaching and clinical research, becoming one of the more prominent figures in Spain in the care of patients with spinal cord damage.
Clinical career: Vaquero served for many years as chief of the Neurosurgery Department at Hospital Puerta de Hierro, a major tertiary hospital in the Madrid region, taking up that leadership role in 1992. In that position he led surgical teams and multidisciplinary units that treated spinal trauma, degenerative conditions and complex spinal cord pathologies.

Research and areas of focus
His work concentrated on the clinical management and rehabilitation of medullary injuries. Vaquero participated in clinical studies and hospital programs aimed at improving outcomes after spinal cord injury.
