Overview

Ironton is a riverfront city in the U.S. state of Ohio. It serves as the county seat of Lawrence County and recorded 11,129 residents at the 2010 census. The community lies along the Ohio River and includes a designated Downtown Ironton Historic District that reflects much of its 19th‑century growth.

History and name

Ironton developed where river transport and iron production met in the Ohio River valley; its name refers to the important role ironworks and related trades played during the city’s early expansion.
