Military career and positions
Veryvakis pursued a professional military career that culminated in leadership of Greece’s armed forces at the highest level. His most prominent appointments included:
- Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (senior command of the Army)
- Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (1990–1993), the principal military advisory and coordinating body for all branches of the Greek armed forces
