History and merger

The locality has roots in the traditional municipal system of the region, where small communes managed local affairs such as farming infrastructure and minor civil services. Facing common pressures — including the desire for more efficient public services and administrative costs — the area underwent consolidation. On 1 July 2011 the former municipalities of Eclagnens, Goumoens-la-Ville and Goumoens-le-Jux joined to form the new municipality of Goumoëns. This merger transferred most administrative functions to the larger municipal structure while preserving local identity.
