Gordon Christian (American ice hockey player)

Early life and college

Christian was born in Warroad and began playing hockey in the strong local culture of the sport. He attended the University of North Dakota and played on the university team from 1947 to 1950, a period when American college hockey provided much of the talent for national and Olympic teams. His years at North Dakota helped establish him as a competent amateur player during the post‑war era of the sport.

Olympic career

Christian was a member of the 1956 United States Olympic ice hockey team that competed at Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy. That U.S. squad earned the silver medal, finishing behind the Soviet Union. The 1956 team was part of an era when Olympic ice hockey was contested primarily by amateur and collegiate athletes from the United States.

Gordy Christian belonged to a remarkable hockey family whose members achieved success at the highest international level. Notable relatives include:
