Design and symbolism

The flag consists of a rectangular blue field with a gold silhouette of Kosovo centered on the upper half and an arc of six white, five-pointed stars above the map. Official explanations describe the blue background as evoking a European orientation and international engagement, while the gold map denotes the territory of Kosovo. The six stars symbolize the principal communities that live in Kosovo; these are most commonly listed as Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Bosniaks, Roma, and Gorani.
