Enzkreis is a Landkreis (rural district) in the northwest of Baden-Württemberg, in the southwestern part of Germany. Geography and landscape

The district covers a varied landscape of river valleys, wooded hills and agricultural plateaus. In the south the territory reaches into the northern fringes of the Black Forest, with mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests and networked walking and cycling paths. The terrain supports farming on gentler slopes and denser woodland toward the highlands.

History and administration

Like many districts in Baden-Württemberg, Enzkreis in its present form is the result of 20th-century territorial reforms that reorganised municipalities and local government. The area has a long human presence visible in medieval towns, churches and monastic sites that reflect historic trade and craft traditions.

Economy and transport

The local economy is a mix of small and medium-sized industrial firms, service businesses and agriculture. Good road and rail links connect the district to regional centres such as Pforzheim, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, making parts of Enzkreis attractive for commuters and light industry.

Culture, tourism and notable sites

Visitors are drawn to historic towns, cultural attractions and outdoor recreation. The district contains important heritage sites and scenic routes used for hiking and cycling. Local festivals and markets preserve regional crafts and culinary traditions, contributing to the district's cultural identity.

Key facts and distinctions
