Dmytro Grabovskyy (Дмитро Грабовський; born 30 September 1985 in Simferopol, then part of Ukraine) was a professional road bicycle racer who competed in junior and professional ranks in Europe. He attracted international attention with his results at the 2005 UCI Road World Championships in Madrid and later rode for continental-level teams, most notably ISD-Lampre as one of his last professional listings. Grabovskyy later acquired Israeli citizenship and is sometimes described as a Ukrainian–Israeli rider in retrospective accounts.

Career overview

Grabovskyy came to prominence as a talented junior rider. At the 2005 World Championships he won the junior road race and placed highly in the junior time trial, results that marked him out as a promising young talent and opened opportunities in the European professional peloton. In the years that followed he competed mainly with continental squads, taking part in stage races, one-day events and time trials across Europe. He was known as a capable all-rounder in the under‑23 and continental categories rather than as a long-established leader on the top-tier WorldTour circuit.

His career path is broadly typical of many Eastern European cyclists of his generation: strong youth and under‑23 results, followed by service with professional continental teams and an attempt to establish a longer career in the European racing calendar. Records list ISD-Lampre among the teams that employed him during his professional career.

Nationality and later life

Originally representing Ukraine as a junior, Grabovskyy obtained Israeli citizenship in 2014 and is later referred to in some sources as an Israeli rider. Such nationality changes are not uncommon in international sport, where personal, family or professional reasons can lead athletes to change the country they represent. Publicly available details about his private life after the citizenship change are limited.

Death and legacy

Dmytro Grabovskyy died on 23 January 2017 at the age of 31. Contemporary reports indicated that his death was caused by a heart attack. His passing was noted by cycling communities in Ukraine, Israel and among the continental teams and peers who remembered him from the mid‑2000s racing scene.
