Sir David Akers-Jones KBE ( Chinese: 鍾逸傑 爵士; 14 April 1927 – 30 September 2019) was a British colonial administrator who served at senior levels in Hong Kong's government during the 1980s.

Early life

Akers-Jones was born on 14 April 1927 in Worthing, Sussex. Details of his early education and first appointments are not covered here; his public profile is primarily associated with his later administrative roles in Hong Kong.

Public service

Over a long career in the colony's civil service, Akers-Jones rose to become Chief Secretary, the most senior civil servant beneath the governor, a post he held from 1985 until 1987. During a transition period he acted as the Governor of Hong Kong from December 1986 to April 1987, carrying out the governor's duties until a permanent appointee took office.

Honours

He was knighted and is officially styled "Sir" with the knighthood designation KBE, reflecting honours awarded for his public service.

Death

Akers-Jones died on 30 September 2019 in a hospital in Hong Kong after a battle with colon cancer. He was 92 years old.
