Daniel M. Pierce

Political career

Pierce was first elected to the state legislature in the mid-1960s and served continuously from 1965 through 1985 as a member of the Democratic Party. During his twenty years in the Illinois House he took part in state policymaking affecting local governments, education financing and municipal affairs. After leaving the legislature he turned to municipal leadership and was elected mayor of Highland Park, serving from 1987 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2003.

Trained and practicing as an attorney, Pierce balanced a private legal career with public responsibilities.
