Formation and composition

The present municipality was established on 1 January 2016 under the French policy encouraging the formation of "communes nouvelles" to streamline local administration. The new commune groups together several formerly independent communes, with the administrative centre (seat) at Condé-sur-Noireau. The constituent former communes are:
