Carlos Raúl Contreras Guillén (7 October 1938 – 17 April 2020) was a Chilean professional football player best known for his role as a defender. Born in Santiago, he became a regular presence for both his domestic club and the national side during a prominent period of Chilean football.
Club and international career
Contreras spent the bulk of his club career with Club Universidad de Chile, playing there from 1958 to 1969 and contributing to the team's successful run in the 1960s. At international level he represented the Chile national team between 1959 and 1966. He was a member of the squad that competed at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, a tournament hosted by Chile that produced the country's best-ever World Cup finish.

As a defender Contreras was valued for his positional sense and reliability.
