Aignerville — former commune in Calvados, Normandy

Location and character

The village stood in a typical Normandy landscape of agricultural fields, hedgerows and scattered hamlets. It lay within the department of Calvados and belonged to the general territory of northwest France. Like many small French communes it combined residential dwellings, farm buildings and a small parish church or chapel that served nearby inhabitants.

Administrative history

The settlement is recorded as a former commune and appears in administrative summaries as Aignerville. On 1 January 2017 it was merged into the new commune of Formigny La Bataille, a process common in recent French local government reform intended to pool resources and simplify administration.

Heritage and significance

Although small, places like Aignerville contribute to the cultural fabric of Normandy through vernacular architecture, local place names and agricultural traditions. Their incorporation into larger communes aims to preserve these identities while improving municipal services.
