Early life and training

Haig was born in Fresno, Fresno, California, and received formal dramatic training at the Pasadena Playhouse. He began acting in the 1960s, building a résumé of small parts and guest appearances on television while gradually moving into feature films. Final years and death

Haig married Susan L. Oberg in 2007. In early September 2019 he was hospitalized after a fall at his home in Los Angeles. While recovering he developed a lung infection and later suffered cardiopulmonary arrest. His death on September 21, 2019 was attributed to cardiopulmonary arrest caused by COPD and bowel obstruction. He was 80 years old.
