Kimmo Samuel Timonen (born March 18, 1975) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey defenceman who played for many seasons at the highest levels of the sport. A veteran of the National Hockey League, he was known for his reliable puck movement, steady skating and role as a power-play quarterback from the blue line. Over a lengthy career he became a respected leader on every club he represented.
Playing career
Timonen developed as a player in Finland before establishing himself in North America. In the NHL he skated for the Nashville Predators, spent the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, and finished his playing days as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. He built a reputation as a durable, offense-oriented defenseman who could log big minutes in all situations.
Style and strengths
As a puck-moving defenceman, Timonen combined quick, efficient skating with good vision and passing. He was frequently relied upon to run the power play and to make the first pass out of the defensive zone.
