Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite (born 22 April, 1982), commonly known as Kaká, is a retired Brazilian former football midfielder. He built a reputation as an attacking playmaker during a professional career that spanned clubs in Brazil, Europe and the United States, and he was also a regular member of the Brazil national team.

Early life and rise

Kaká grew up in Brasília and came through the youth system of São Paulo FC. He made his professional breakthrough in the early 2000s, combining technical skill, vision and forward runs from midfield to attract attention from Europe.

Club career overview

After establishing himself in Brazil, Kaká moved to Europe where his most notable spell was with AC Milan. With Milan he played a key role in the club's return to continental success in the mid-2000s. In 2009 he transferred to Real Madrid for a high-profile fee, later returning to Milan and finishing his career with a stint in Major League Soccer. He announced his retirement from professional football in 2017.

International career

Kaká represented Brazil at senior level for a decade, appearing at multiple major tournaments and contributing both goals and assists. He was part of the national squad that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup and finished his international tenure with more than 90 caps.

Playing style

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Kaká combined passing range, ball control and forward momentum to create chances and score. He was known for his ability to drive through midfield at speed, link play between midfield and attack, and his timing of runs into the box.
