Günter Lamprecht (21 January 1930 – 4 October 2022) was a German actor whose career spanned stage, film and television. He gained wide recognition for his performance as the lead character in the television adaptation directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and for appearances in major German-language films of the late 20th century.
Career highlights
Lamprecht’s most prominent screen role was as the central figure in the 1980 television serial adaptation of Berlin Alexanderplatz, directed by Fassbinder. The part brought him international attention and remains a defining credit of his career.
He also took part in Wolfgang Petersen’s submarine drama Das Boot (1981), one of the best-known German films of its era. Over several decades Lamprecht worked across film, television and theatre, often portraying complex, gritty characters.
