Affiliated with the Law and Justice party, she entered the Sejm in 2005 and has held a sequence of parliamentary and executive roles. In mid-2019 she served briefly as Minister of the Interior and Administration and was elected Marshal of the Sejm on 9 August 2019, a senior constitutional office in Poland.
Political career and affiliations
Witek represents one of the conservative political groupings in Poland and has been active at the national level since her first election to the Sejm in September 2005. As Marshal of the Sejm she presides over plenary sittings, enforces parliamentary procedure, and coordinates the legislative agenda. The Marshal also represents the Sejm externally and chairs internal bodies that organise the work of the chamber. Her short tenure as Minister of the Interior and Administration involved oversight of internal security and public administration matters, though that ministerial post lasted only a few weeks in 2019.
