Bishan consists mainly of Housing & Development Board (HDB) flats together with private condominiums and smaller pockets of landed properties. The town centre is anchored by an MRT interchange and a major shopping mall, while green space and neighbourhood amenities are distributed to serve residents. History and development

Prior to urban development the area included burial grounds and village plots. During the late 20th century the land was cleared and redeveloped under national housing programmes, transforming it into a modern residential town. In the early 1990s a prominent independent school relocated to Bishan, adding to the area’s reputation as a family-friendly district with good educational options.

Bishan is served by a major MRT interchange on two lines, frequent bus routes and nearby expressways, which together provide rapid access across the island.
