Donald Richie
American writer and film historian (1924–2013) who lived in Japan and became a leading Western interpreter of Japanese cinema, known for books on Ozu, Kurosawa and travel memoirs.
Donald Richie (April 17, 1924 – February 19, 2013) was an American writer, film critic and historian who spent most of his adult life in Japan. He is widely regarded as one of the earliest and most influential Western interpreters of Japanese cinema, helping introduce Japanese filmmakers and screen styles to readers outside Japan.
