Overview

Sir Cuthbert Montraville Sebastian, GCMG, OBE (22 October 1921 – 25 March 2017), was a Saint Kitts and Nevis public figure who held the viceregal office of Governor-General. He took up the post after his 1995 appointment and was formally sworn in on 1 January 1996. While serving in that capacity he was recognised as the world's oldest de facto head of state.

Service and retirement

Sebastian's period in office extended into the early 21st century. His intention to step down was made public on 25 December 2012, and he left the governorship on 1 January 2013. His tenure was part of the constitutional arrangements of Saint Kitts and Nevis, where the Governor-General represents the Crown.

Death

Sebastian died on 25 March 2017 in Basseterre. The cause was recorded as complications arising from pneumonia. He was 95 years old.
