Luke Boyd (born December 13, 1977), known professionally as Classified, is a Canadian hip hop artist and record producer from Enfield, Nova Scotia. He is best known for a long-running independent career in which he writes, produces and releases much of his own material. Classified has been a prominent figure in the East Coast and national Canadian hip hop scenes since the 1990s.

Career and development

Classified began releasing music as an independent artist and built a reputation through steady output, touring and local support in Halifax and other parts of Canada. Over time he expanded from underground releases to wider commercial exposure while maintaining control over production and songwriting. He produces much of his own work and has collaborated with a variety of Canadian musicians and vocalists.

Musical style and themes

His music blends traditional hip hop elements—rhythmic rhymes and beat-driven arrangements—with accessible, melodic choruses and personal lyrics. Recurring themes include daily life in small-town Atlantic Canada, work ethic, travel, and resilience. Classified's production tends to favor clear hooks and radio-friendly structures without abandoning street-level storytelling.

Notable works and impact

Classified reached broader mainstream recognition with the single "Inner Ninja," which paired his rap verses with a memorable sung hook and received heavy radio play across Canada. That single brought him national attention and substantial commercial success, introducing many new listeners to his catalog. Throughout his career he has balanced independent credibility with moments of mass-market visibility.

Independent approach and legacy

Much of Classified's catalogue was released on his own imprint and through independent distribution channels, illustrating a do-it-yourself approach that has inspired other Canadian artists. He is recognized for longevity, prolific output and for helping to raise the profile of hip hop artists outside Canada's largest urban centres.
