Selection and awarding process

Organisers emphasised use of existing facilities and temporary sites to reduce construction and environmental footprint. Athletics and the principal ceremonies are scheduled at the Stade de France, while several competitions and high-profile events are sited in iconic Paris locations. The opening ceremony is planned to be staged largely on the River Seine, a distinctive approach intended to make the parade of nations visible to large numbers of residents and visitors along the riverbanks. Other temporary arenas and renovated venues across Greater Paris host events such as beach volleyball, aquatics, and team sports.
