Zakaria Ben Mustapha (7 July 1925 – 4 June 2019) was a Tunisian politician and public servant. Born in Tunis, he held several prominent posts at both regional and national levels over a career that spanned the 1960s through the 1980s.

Public offices

Ben Mustapha occupied a series of administrative and political roles. Notable appointments include:

  • Governor of Gabès (1967–1969)
  • Mayor of Tunis (1980–1986)
  • Minister of Culture (1986–1988)

Political affiliation and relationships

He was affiliated with the Socialist Destourian Party and later the Democratic Constitutional Rally. During his career he was regarded as an ally of the President Habib Bourguiba, a central figure in Tunisia's post-independence politics.

Death

Zakaria Ben Mustapha died in his native city of Tunis on 4 June 2019 at the age of 93.
