William "Gatz" Hjortsberg (February 23, 1941 – April 22, 2017) was an American novelist and screenwriter. He was known for writing the screenplay of the movie Legend. His novel Falling Angel was the basis for the movie Angel Heart (1987).
Hjortsberg died on April 22, 2017 in Livingston, Montana from pancreatic cancer, aged 76.
