Geography and layout

The park itself covers roughly 372 acres and occupies an east–west strip bounded by Cottage Grove and the Dan Ryan Expressway to the west and east and extending roughly from 51st to 63rd Street. The surrounding community area lies on the South Side and is connected to the wider city by bus routes and adjacent expressway access, making the park a visible landmark from several arterials.
