Tremona (Ticino) — former Swiss municipality merged into Mendrisio in 2009

History and administration of Tremona, a former municipality in Ticino’s Mendrisio district, and its 2009 merger into the enlarged municipality of Mendrisio.

Tremona was a former local government unit in the district of Mendrisio, located in the southern Swiss canton of Ticino. It lay within the political boundaries of the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland) and until 2009 held the status of a municipality within the canton.

Location and administration

The settlement belonged administratively to the district of Mendrisio and was governed under the laws of the canton of Ticino. Before 2009 it functioned as an independent municipal entity with local responsibilities for services and planning.

Merger of 2009

On 5 April 2009 Tremona ceased to exist as an independent municipality when it merged with several neighbouring municipalities to form an enlarged municipality of Mendrisio. The other municipalities involved in the reorganisation were:
