Harry Reginald Anthony "Tony" Streather (24 March 1926 – 31 October 2018) was a British army officer and mountaineer. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was appointed an OBE. Streather served with the Gloucestershire Regiment and became known for his role in early expeditions to some of the Himalaya's highest peaks.

Military service

Streather spent his military career in the Gloucestershire Regiment, rising through the officer ranks to Lieutenant Colonel (Retired). His time in the army provided both leadership experience and opportunities to take part in high-altitude expeditions mounted by British teams.

Mountaineering achievements

Streather took part in pioneering climbs in the greater Himalayan region. He was a member of the expedition teams that made the first recorded ascents of Tirich Mir and Kangchenjunga, two of the most prominent peaks in the range. These early successes contributed to his reputation as an accomplished and experienced high-altitude climber.

Later life and recognition

After leaving active military service Streather remained involved with the climbing community and was recognised for both his service and his mountaineering achievements. His appointment as an OBE reflects public acknowledgement of his contributions in these fields.

Death

Tony Streather died on 31 October 2018 at the age of 92.
