Tommy Albert Blom (3 March 1947 – 25 May 2014) was a Swedish singer and radio personality. He came to public attention in the 1960s as a member of the pop group Tages, and later became a familiar voice on Swedish radio. Born in Gothenburg, Blom spent much of his life working in music performance and broadcasting.
Music career and Tages
Blom sang and performed with Tages, one of Sweden's most successful beat groups of the mid‑1960s. Tages combined vocal harmonies and electric instrumentation typical of the period and achieved commercial success in Sweden. As a member of the band he contributed to recordings and live shows that helped define a Swedish pop scene influenced by British and American pop and rock.
Broadcasting and later work
After his active years as a pop musician, Blom transitioned into radio. For many years he was associated with the Stockholm station Vinyl 107, where he presented programs that focused on classic pop, rock and vinyl records. His programmes were appreciated for their knowledgeable, nostalgic tone and for championing older recordings for new listeners.
Controversy, return and final years
In 2008 Blom left his position at Vinyl 107 amid reports that age was a factor in the dismissal; the incident prompted public discussion about age and media employment. He returned to the station in 2011 and continued to appear on air until his health declined. Blom died of cancer on 25 May 2014 in Stockholm, aged 67.
