Shangqiu is a prefecture-level city in eastern Henan province in the People's Republic of China. It occupies a position on the North China Plain and serves as a regional administrative, agricultural and transport center. The city has been recorded under the older romanization Shangkiu. According to the 2010 census its total population was about 7,362,975.

Shangqiu lies where low, fertile plains meet a network of rivers and canals that have supported farming for millennia.
