The two met as teenagers and began collaborating on songs and live sets. After several years of performing and releasing music independently, they signed to Island Records in November 2010, a step that increased their exposure and led to wider distribution and promotion. Musical style and influences
Rizzle Kicks are known for upbeat arrangements that fuse rhythmic rap verses with melodic choruses, often incorporating elements drawn from pop, jazz, ska and vintage British pop traditions. Their lyrics range from playful and observational to self-aware commentary, delivered with tight vocal interplay and ear-catching production. This blend helped them stand out among contemporaries by appealing to mainstream pop listeners as well as fans of contemporary UK hip-hop.
Key releases and performances
The duo's debut album, Stereo Typical, was released on 28 October 2011 and introduced several singles that received commercial airplay. One of their early hits, "Down with the Trumpets," reached the UK Singles Chart top ten, peaking at number eight. Their second studio album, Roaring 20s, arrived on 2 September 2013. Rizzle Kicks continued to perform on high-profile stages; notably, they presented the single "Skip to the Good Bit" at the Royal Variety Performance on 26 November 2013.

They remain recognized for bringing a light-hearted, melodic approach to UK hip-hop and for bridging genres in a way that found mainstream radio success. Their early albums are often cited as snapshots of the British pop-rap landscape of the early 2010s and they continue to be referenced in discussions about genre-crossing UK acts of that era.

The two musicians were born in London and met through their families at the age of four. Over time, they lost contact with each other and moved to Brighton independently. There, through various coincidences, they were reunited at the age of eleven when they met at a football match. They attended BRIT School and began recording their first mixtapes with rap over samples of their favourite musicians. With the help of a friend, they created music videos. On October 31, 2011, their debut album Stereo Typical was released.
A first single was released in May 2011, with the second single Down with the Trumpets Rizzle Kicks reached the British charts for the first time. Together with Olly Murs the single Heart Skips a Beat was recorded.
The second album Roaring 20s was released in September 2013, and the Rizzle Kicks collaborated on the song To Be on Morcheeba's album Head Up High, released in October 2013.
