Rebeuvelier was a small, largely French-speaking municipality in the district of Delémont within the canton of Jura, in northwestern Switzerland. Situated in the lower Jura hills, the locality was characterised by mixed agricultural land, woodland and modest limestone ridges. The settlement maintained a rural character, with many residents involved in farming, local services or commuting to nearby towns for employment.

Historically, Rebeuvelier shared much of its cultural and administrative life with neighbouring villages. Local governance, schooling arrangements and community activities were organised at the municipal level until a decision to merge was taken in the context of cantonal policies encouraging consolidation of small communes. On 1 January 2019 Rebeuvelier and the neighbouring village of Vellerat joined the municipality of Courrendlin, ending Rebeuvelier's status as an independent commune.

Quick facts

The administrative merger reflects wider trends in Switzerland where small communes combine resources to improve public services, streamline administration and respond to demographic change. After the consolidation, local planning, public utilities and many services became the responsibility of the enlarged municipal council of Courrendlin, while former residents continue to preserve local traditions and participate in regional associations.

For those researching local history or administrative changes, official municipal records and cantonal archives provide the most reliable and up-to-date information about Rebeuvelier, its governance before 2019 and its integration into Courrendlin. Regional walking routes and natural features remain accessible, and the area continues to contribute to the rural landscape and cultural life of the Jura.
