Quezon City
Quezon City [ˈkɛson ˈsɪtɪ] (Filipino Lungsod Quezon; German Quezon City) is the most populous city in the Philippines. It belongs to the Metro Manila region and is located on the main island of Luzón in close proximity to the capital Manila. Quezon City has a very high population density of statistically around 16,000 inhabitants per square kilometer (comparable to Monaco). Quezon City is the second richest city in the Philippines after Makati City (as of November 2016).
Quezon City was the capital of the Philippines from 1937 to 1976. On June 24, 1976, the metropolitan region of Metro Manila was established by decree of then President Ferdinand Marcos, effectively incorporating Quezon City and replacing it as the capital. The new capital became Manila. The city is named after the first president of the Philippines, Manuel Quezon, after whom the province of Quezon is also named. A large park with his monument (Quezon Memorial Circle) is dedicated to him in the city. Quezon City is home to various government agencies and ministries, the Central Bank of the Philippines (filipino Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) and the House of Representatives of the Philippines (Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan ng Pilipinas).
One of the most important industries is the textile industry. Tourism is also of economic importance and attempts are being made to attract more companies in the computer industry. Quezon City is the seat of the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University. In addition, Quezon City is the seat of the diocese of Cubao. Quezon is home to the Santo Domingo Church and the shrine of La Naval de Manila, which was declared a national treasure of the Philippines in 2012.
Baranggays
Quezon City is divided into 142 barangays and four electoral districts to the House of Representatives of the Philippines.
