Career and positions

Hurford held several church and concert appointments during his life; one early post was as organist of Holy Trinity Church, Leamington Spa (1956–57). He recorded extensively for Decca and contributed programmes and broadcasts to BBC Radio 3, bringing organ music to a broader public. He was also closely associated with initiatives to promote the organ and its literature, including the establishment and direction of an international organ festival that attracted performers and students from many countries.
