Pass the Dutchie

Pass the Dutchie is a 1982 song by Musical Youth, written by Jackie Mittoo and Leroy Sibbles. It appeared in the album The Youth of Today.

History

Pass the Dutchie is a sanitized version of the song Pass the Kouchie by Mighty Diamonds, released in 1981, and here "Koutchie" (a joint, also kouchie, kutchie, ...) was replaced by "Dutchie" (term of endearment for a Dutch oven). In general, all references to drugs in the song were replaced with food, including the line "How does it feel when you got no herb?" (German "How does it feel when you got no herb?") to "How does it feel when you got no food?" (German "How does it feel when you got no food?").

The release took place on September 24, 1982; in the countries Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium the reggae number became a number one hit.

In the movie Scooby-Doo you could hear this song.
