The highway begins at a major interchange with Highway 401 (and nearby Highway 403 connections) near the southern edge of Brampton and extends northward, terminating at Highway 10 just beyond the city's northern limits. Highway 410 is a multi‑lane freeway that carries a mix of commuter and commercial traffic; typical features include grade‑separated interchanges, limited access points, and medians separating opposing flows. Outside the most urban sections it generally operates at the standard provincial freeway speed and is designed to accommodate heavy daily volumes during peak periods.

History and development

The corridor that became Highway 410 was developed in stages as suburban growth in Brampton and surrounding areas accelerated. Constructed and extended in phases, the expressway was upgraded over time to a full freeway standard to improve safety and traffic flow. Its construction mirrored regional land‑use change, supporting residential expansion and new industrial and commercial areas while addressing congestion on older arterial streets.
