Life and career

O. N. V. established himself as both a poet for the page and a writer of lyrics for popular music. His output included work for Malayalam cinema, as well as for theatre and serials broadcast on television. In recognition of his contribution to literature he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Kerala in 2007. Beyond artistic activity, he also engaged with public life and politics, standing as the Left Democratic Front candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the Lok Sabha elections of 1989.
