History and administration

Like many communities in the region, Nevele grew from medieval village nuclei around churches and manor farms. Over centuries it was governed at the municipal level within the province of East Flanders. The municipal reorganization that took effect in 2019 brought local administration under Deinze; information about the former municipality is preserved in municipal records and regional archives. For administrative summaries see the local entry at municipal sources.

Population, economy and heritage

In 2007 the population of the municipality was about 11,376 inhabitants. The local economy has been dominated by agriculture, small businesses and commuter links to nearby urban centres. Heritage features include parish churches, traditional farmhouses and small chapels; cultural and planning initiatives are now handled by the Deinze authorities. Nevele wapen.svg
