Ashok H. Desai — Indian lawyer and former Attorney General

Career and principal offices

Desai held two of the principal law officer positions in India. He was the Solicitor General of India from 18 December 1989 to 2 December 1990 and later served as the Attorney General of India from 9 July 1996 to 6 May 1998. In these roles he appeared for the Union of India in the Supreme Court and assisted the government on litigation strategy and legal interpretation.

Before and between his tenures as law officer, Desai practised as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court.
