Geography and environment

Manatuto occupies a stretch of central coastline with varied terrain that includes coastal plains, low hills and inland uplands. To the north the municipality faces the Strait of Wetar, while the southern boundary meets the Timor Sea. The coastline supports fisheries and some coastal wetlands, and inland zones are characterized by seasonal patterns of rain and dry spells typical of Timor.
