Teams and sports

ULM sponsors a mix of men's and women's sports. The athletic program traces its roots to the campus’s earlier identity as Northeast Louisiana University. In 2006 the school adopted the Warhawks nickname, replacing the former Indian nickname, a change reflecting broader shifts in collegiate naming practices. Team colors are traditionally maroon and gold and the athletic mascot is Ace the Warhawk.
