Creation and administrative status

The modern municipality was established on 1 January 2003 when it was separated from Uppsala Municipality. In Swedish it is known as Knivsta kommun. It is one of Sweden's many municipalities (municipality) that combine responsibilities for local infrastructure, education and social services under an elected council.

Geography and transport

Knivsta occupies a landscape of mixed farmland, small woodlands and compact settlements. Its location between larger urban centres makes it part of a commuter region; residents commonly travel by regional rail and bus services to nearby cities.
