Józef Pazdur (22 November 1924 – 7 May 2015) was a Polish Roman Catholic prelate who served the Church through the second half of the 20th century and into the early 21st. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1951 and, after decades of pastoral and diocesan work, was named an auxiliary bishop in 1984. His life spanned periods of deep social and political change in Poland, and his ministry reflected the continuity of local Church life during those transitions.
Biography
Pazdur began his priestly ministry shortly after World War II, a time when the Polish Church was rebuilding parishes and institutions. Ordained in 1951, he carried out parish duties and likely participated in diocesan responsibilities typical for priests of his generation: pastoral care, sacramental ministry, catechesis and support for local communities. Details of his early assignments are recorded in diocesan sources and reference works about the Polish episcopate.
Auxiliary bishop of Wrocław
In 1984 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Wrocław, a historic see in southwestern Poland centered on Wrocław Cathedral. As an auxiliary bishop he assisted the metropolitan archbishop in oversight of the archdiocese, sharing duties such as confirmations, ordinations, pastoral visits and administrative tasks. His episcopal service covered the final years of communist rule in Poland and the era of transformation after 1989, a time when the Church played a significant role in public life.
Roles and typical duties
- Assisting the diocesan bishop in sacramental and liturgical functions.
- Overseeing groups of parishes or specific pastoral programs.

Pazdur retired from active episcopal ministry in 2000, after which he held the title of auxiliary bishop emeritus. He died on 7 May 2015. His career is remembered within the local Church as part of the continuity of pastoral care and administration in Wrocław across changing social circumstances.
