James Milne Wilson (1812–1880)

Early life and career

Wilson was born in Banff, Scotland. As a young man he emigrated to what was then Van Diemen's Land (later Tasmania) and became involved in business and civic affairs. He established a reputation as a practical administrator and was active in commercial and municipal matters before devoting himself full time to parliamentary service. Wilson served in the Tasmanian parliament for many years and held several important posts.
