Ilie Balaci (13 September 1956 – 21 October 2018) was a Romanian football midfielder and later a coach. Renowned for his ball control, vision and passing, he became one of the most celebrated Romanian players of his generation and a key figure in the rise of his club during the 1970s and 1980s.

Playing career

Balaci spent the bulk of his professional career with Universitatea Craiova, where he appeared in more than 300 official matches and helped the team win seven major domestic titles.
