Anne T. Hill (1916–1999) was an American dress designer who later taught yoga. Born in Atlanta, she worked in mid-20th-century garment design and spent later years teaching yoga in Rancho Mirage, California.

Anne T. Hill (November 24, 1916 – March 8, 1999) was an American fashion designer and later a yoga teacher. Her life combined practical skill in clothing construction with an interest in physical well-being and instruction. Hill's career illustrates the paths taken by many regional designers who balanced client work, small-scale production and community involvement.

Early life and education. Hill was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed secondary schooling at Commercial High School. She continued her studies at the University of Georgia, acquiring experience and contacts that preceded a practical career in apparel and teaching. Her southern upbringing and early education provided a base for her later professional life.

Fashion career

During the mid-20th century Hill worked as a dressmaker and designer at a time when American fashion was evolving from bespoke couture toward broader ready-to-wear and regional design enterprises. Her work emphasized garment construction, careful selection of fabrics and attention to fit. Like many designers of her generation she likely combined custom client commissions with small-scale production for local markets, tailoring garments that were wearable and well made.

Her approach reflected common practices of the era: pattern drafting, hand and machine sewing, fittings and adaptations for individual clients. Regional designers such as Hill contributed to the diversity of American dress by serving local tastes and by interpreting larger fashion trends at a neighborhood or community level.

Yoga teaching and later activities

In later years Hill turned much of her attention to teaching yoga. Her instruction was described as accessible and suited to adult students seeking gentle exercise, improved flexibility and stress reduction. She taught in community settings and private classes, helping students adapt postures and breathing practices to daily life. This transition from a hands-on craft to teaching a mind–body discipline exemplifies a wider interest in wellness that grew in the United States during the late 20th century.

Personal life and legacy

Hill was married several times: first to Harry Leher, then to Roy W. Hill (they married in 1971 and remained married until his death in 1986), and later to Edgar L. McCoubrey from 1990 until her death. In her later years she lived in Rancho Mirage, California, where she died of heart failure on March 8, 1999, at age 82.

Documentary evidence about Hill's life and work is limited in national fashion histories, but her career is representative of the many skilled designers whose craftsmanship supported local communities and whose later embrace of teaching and wellness reflected changing cultural priorities. Her dual roles as designer and instructor suggest a life attentive to both aesthetic creation and personal care.
