José Ignacio Gabriel Jorge Retes Balzaretti (25 March 1947 – 20 April 2020) was a Mexican film director, screenwriter, producer and actor. Across a career that began in the 1970s and continued into the early 21st century, Retes worked in many roles within the film industry and became known for feature films that engaged with social and political themes in Mexico. Several of his films were selected for international festivals, which brought his work wider recognition beyond Mexican audiences.
